Black History Month Spotlight: Gabriela Alleyne Black History Month Spotlight: Gabriela Alleyne

Representation matters. It gives people the space to feel validated and allows everyone to express their opinions comfortably. Representation helps create a team environment where diverse ideas and perspectives are appreciated, and everyone feels valued. This Black History Month, Kepler is giving our employees the space to share their own stories and shed light on the unique reality the Black diaspora faces in the digital marketing and advertising industry.

Meet Gabriela Alleyne

What is your current role at Kepler?

Optimization and Innovation Search Analyst

Why did you choose a career in marketing/advertising?

When studying abroad, I took a marketing course that piqued my interest and motivated me to join a digital marketing program called COOP, where I gained hands-on marketing experience.

Breakthrough: What was your first marketing/advertising role? How did you get it? What was the hardest vs. easier part about landing this role?

My first marketing role was as an Assistant Strategist at another agency. I knew about it through COOP. The hardest part about landing that role was trying to get an interview, and the easiest part about landing the role was doing the interviews.

What was your biggest hurdle breaking into the marketing/advertising world?

My biggest hurdle breaking into the marketing world was getting an interview during a pandemic.

What tips can you give young black professionals trying to start their own marketing/advertising career?

Be confident within yourself, don't get discouraged; you have something to offer!

Favorite and least favorite thing about being in the marketing/advertising industry?

My favorite thing about being in the marketing industry is that it's fast-paced and always changing.

Kepler is addressing the barriers of awareness, access, opportunity, and hands-on experience in its Kepler Academy program, designed to help diverse candidates land and thrive in digital marketing roles.
